US Lauds Pakistan’s Counterterrorism After Labeling BLA Terrorist Group
Pakistan and the United States held the latest round of the Pakistan-U.S. Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad on August 12, 2025. The United States applauded Pakistan’s efforts to contain terrorist entities that pose a threat to the peace and security of the region and the world.
Special Secretary for the UN Nabeel Munir co-chaired the dialogue, alongside the US Department of State’s Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Gregory D. LoGerfo.
The delegations underscored the critical importance of developing effective approaches to terrorist threats, including those posed by Balochistan Liberation Army, ISIS Khorasan, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

The delegations emphasized the importance of building stronger institutional frameworks and developing capabilities to respond to security challenges and to counter the use of emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.
Both countries emphasized sustaining and restructuring engagement to counter terrorism and promote peace and stability.
Recently, the US Department of State designated the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its alias, Majeed Brigade, as a foreign terrorist organization.
BLA was designated as an SDGT in 2019 following several terrorist attacks. Since 2019, BLA has claimed responsibility for additional attacks, including by the Majeed Brigade. In 2014, BLA claimed it had committed suicide attacks near the Airport in Karachi and the Gwadar Port complex.
In 2025, the BLA claimed responsibility for the March hijacking of the Jaffar Express train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, killing 31 civilians and security personnel.
