White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sparked a wave of social media attention on Tuesday after sharing a personal anecdote about a conversation with a hotel waiter in Doha, Qatar, who credited US President Donald Trump for enabling him to return home to Kashmir amid the India-Pakistan escalation.

In a tweet that quickly gained traction, Leavitt recounted how the waiter thanked her and asked her to convey his gratitude to Trump for mediating a ceasefire that has now allowed him to return to his homeland.

According to Leavitt, the waiter had been stranded abroad in recent weeks due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan over the disputed Kashmir region.

“He told me he is from Kashmir, and he has been unable to return home in recent weeks due to the India-Pakistan conflict,” Leavitt wrote. “But he was just notified that he’s now able to return, thanks to the ceasefire mediated by President Trump, @VP and @SecRubio.”

The press secretary praised Trump’s efforts, adding that the waiter told her that the US president “is not receiving enough credit for literally preventing a nuclear war”. She also noted that Trump had inherited “so many conflicts around the globe” and is working to resolve them “one at a time”.

While the tweet received praise from Trump supporters and conservative commentators, it also drew scepticism from critics who questioned the extent of Trump’s involvement in the recent ceasefire.

Meanwhile, India has rejected all claims made by the Trump government about the US brokering a ceasefire between the neighbouring countries and pre-empting a nuclear conflict. The Indian government has also categorically rejected Trump’s offer to mediate on the Kashmir issue.

New Delhi clarified that the issue of trade, which Trump claimed was the reason behind India and Pakistan agreeing to a ceasefire, never came up during the talks between the US officials and Indian diplomats from when Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 till May 10, when the ceasefire was announced.
