At least 22 people were killed and almost 60 were injured in mass shootings at multiple locations in the US city of Lewiston, Maine. Lewiston police have identified 40-year-old Robert Card as the prime suspect in these mass shootings. According to the police, Robert Card is a trained firearm instructor and was a member of the US Army Reserves.
According to law enforcement, the suspect recently reported mental health issues, including hearing voices and threats to shoot up the National Guard Base in Saco. Robert Card was also reported to have been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks during summer 2023. Macra reported that Robert Card is twice divorced and a father of three children. The suspect also has a history of arrests for domestic violence and other crimes.
Maine Police have asked the residents in the area not to approach the suspect or contact him if they see him. Police said that Robert Card is armed and dangerous, and they have also released photos of the suspect with a gun with the caption “suspect for identification.” Meanwhile, the White House said in a statement that US President Joe Biden spoke with the Maine governor and lawmakers about the mass shooting. Authorities have reportedly said that all municipal buildings in Lewiston will be closed on Thursday as the search for the shooter continues. Schools in the city are also closed, and residents were asked to shelter in a safe place.
