Isuzu Unveils D-Max EV Concept: A New Era In Electric Pickup Trucks

In the space of fully-electric pickup trucks, prominent auto brands like Ford, Volkswagen, RAM, Tesla, and Hummer have made their mark. Now, Isuzu has joined the fray by unveiling the all-electric D-Max pickup truck concept. A production-spec prototype of this innovative vehicle will take centre stage at the upcoming 45th Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand, scheduled from March 27 to April 7, 2024. Upon its launch, the Isuzu D-Max EV will mark the company’s debut in the realm of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

The anticipation for the Isuzu D-Max EV extends beyond Thailand, as it is expected to venture into European markets like Norway and the UK by 2025. Subsequent launches are planned for Australia and Thailand, contingent upon market demands and the evolution of EV charging infrastructure. Visually, the D-Max EV maintains a striking resemblance to its fossil-fuel counterparts.

Expected Specifications of the Isuzu D-Max EV Concept

The all-electric D-Max concept retains the signature design elements of the current D-Max model, with subtle distinctions such as blue accents adorning the twin-slatted front grille and headlamps. Noteworthy features include dual-tone alloy wheels, a sizable footboard, and flared wheel arches, accentuating its robust pickup truck aesthetic.

Powering the Isuzu D-Max EV is a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, which channels energy to a twin-motor, permanent all-wheel-drive configuration. With a front motor output of 40 kW and a rear motor output of 90 kW, the combined peak performance reaches 175 bhp and 325 Nm of torque. This positions the D-Max EV 14 horsepower ahead of its diesel-powered counterpart in India.

Performance-wise, the D-Max EV boasts a top speed of 130 kmph. However, specific details regarding its single-charge range are yet to be disclosed. With a loading capacity of 1 tonne and a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, the electric pickup emerges as a viable commercial vehicle option across various international markets.

Currently, the Japanese brand offers the older version of the D-Max in India, while international markets enjoy the more advanced new-gen model.
