UGC Releases List Of Universities Providing Online And ODL Programme

The University Grants Commission (UGC) released a list of HEIs (Higher Educational Institutions) that have been approved to provide online and open and distance learning (ODL) programs. As per the official notification, the UGC has sanctioned at least 80 universities to provide multiple online distance learning programs.

The Online and ODL is an alternate strategy to supplement the conventional system of higher education. This system is to facilitate the expansion of the higher education sector for the fulfillment of the aspirations of those who are deprived of pursuing education.

The UGC announced that the deadlines for accepting applications for ODL and online programs and student submitting data are March 31, 2024, and April 15, 2024, respectively.

Out of the total approved universities maximum number of universities are approved in Maharashtra and Meghalaya. The distribution of universities is as follows including – 6 universities in Andhra Pradesh, 4 in Assam, 2 Chhattisgarh, 3 in Delhi, 1 in Gujarat, 2 in Haryana, 2 in Himachal Pradesh, 1 in J&K, 3 in Karnataka, 3 in Kerala, 4 in Madhya Pradesh, 7 in Maharashtra, 1 in Meghalaya, 1 in Odisha, 1 in Puducherry, 4 in Punjab, 5 in Rajasthan, 13 in Tamil Nadu, 4 in Telangana, 7 in Uttar Pradesh, 2 in Uttarakhand and 5 in West Bengal.

The list of the institutions shall be updated from time to time. The notification asked all the HEIs to strictly comply with the provisions of UGC (Open and Distance and Online Programme) Regulations, 2020 and the regulation amendments.

The courses approved under the 80 selected universities will be provided for the academic year 2023-24 where academic session begins from February 2024. The list of the approved universities and the courses therein is available on the UGC official website- https://deb.ugc.ac.in/
