Edited by Uzma Parveen

While criticizing a week-long residential training program during Holi, Senior BJP Leader and Union Minister Giriraj Singh accused the Bihar education department of ‘terrorizing’ government teachers and treating them as bonded laborers by depriving them of holidays during ’ festivities.

The State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) asked teachers to attend a week-long residential training program and warned of salary cuts, for those teachers who remain absent. However, the Bihar government has already declared holidays for all government officials on March 26 and March 27 for Holi and March 29 on Good Friday.

The State Education Ministry has not issued any statement about the controversy.

The BJP MP shared a video statement on X  stating, “I am with the teachers and their families and will fight for their cause. Officials will certainly face the consequences sooner or later.”

Reportedly, the Bihar government training program began on March 25 and was expected to be attended by 20,000 teachers. The training during the holidays drew criticism from teachers and educational bodies.

Reacting to the education department move, Nikhil Anand, National General Secretary of BJP OBC Morcha told PTI that forcing teachers to join the training by threatening them is a gross violation of the religious freedom guaranteed by the constitution. He demanded strict action against such officials for working against the spirit of the government.
