Here’s what we know so far about the incident:

♦The incident took place in the Baba Colony under the Mandi Samiti police station on Tuesday evening.

♦Two young brothers named Ayush and Aahan were knifed to death while they were playing on the terrace of a building. They were aged 11 and 6.

♦The accused has been identified as Sajid, a salon owner. As per the the reports, accused reached the terrace and waited for a convenient time to carry out the heinous act. Sajid injured the third boy, Yuvaraj; though he is admitted in the hospital, his condition is stable.

♦The Times of India citing autopsy report stated that the children were attacked with a knife 23 times.  At first, the brothers were attacked at first on the neck, and multiple stab wounds were traced on their chest, back and legs, the report adds.

♦After the murder, Sajid attempted to flee from the scene. But the police chased him and he was shot dead in an encounter after he opened fire at the police during an escape attempt, reports said.

♦In the FIR, the victims’ family reported that Sajid entered the house at the guise of asking Rs.5,000 to treat his pregnant wife.

♦They have also named Javed, brother of Sajid as the second accused in the police complaint. Javed, who was absconding, has surrendered before the police on Thursday.

♦The motive behind the crime is still unclear; however, reports suggested that a possibility of dispute over money may have resulted in the incident. The victims father denies that there was a quarrel between him and the accused.

♦The father of the victims, Vinod Singh, works as a contractor, and their mother, Sangeeta, runs a beauty parlour.

♦The police have tightened security in the region in order to avoid any communal tensions that may possibly flare-up.
