Maharashtra: Sudhakar Shrangare, BJP Candidate From Latur Constituency

Edited by Hiba Anvar

Sudhakar Tukaram Shrangare is fielded as the BJP candidate from Latur constituency. The sitting MP’s name from the Latur constituency was included in the second list of the BJP.

Latur was once a stronghold for the Congress party. But in the last two consecutive elections, the BJP was able to pull down the fort of Congress. In the 2019 general election, Sudhakar won the seat by defeating the Congress candidate for 6,61,495 votes. Latur Lok Sabha constituency is a reserved constituency for scheduled caste candidates.

Born in 1962, Sudhakar hails from the village of Gharani Latur in Maharashtra. He began his political career as a member of Zila Parishad of Wadwal from 2017 to 2019. He took his major step in politics by contesting and winning the Latur seat in the Lok Sabha election in 2019.

Though he was able to secure the seat by a huge margin, Sudhakar was unable to perform well as a political leader during the last five years. He was nominated as the candidate in 2019 through the efforts of former minister Sambhaji Patil-Nilangekar. Moreover, some of the BJP officials and leaders of the district aren’t satisfied with the performance of the current MP.

Moreover, a serious allegation against the saffron party was made by the BJP candidate in 2022 that he was being deliberately not invited to the events organized by the government agencies as he is a Dalit. He made this allegation during an event of unveiling the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar at a park in the presence of Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

“Is it up to me to decide in which family I should take birth? I am insulted because I am a Dalit. My name is missing from invitation cards of programmes. I have kept mum for the last three years, but today I want to tell this,” the BJP MP said.
