BMW M3 launch likely with both ICE and EV powertrains

The next-generation BMW M3, which is scheduled for launch in early 2028, and will be available with a straight-six turbo-petrol engine or an electric drivetrain. This is an attempt to increase its allure in keeping with BMW‘s continued dedication to combustion power.

The CEO of BMW M, revealed his goals and strategies for energizing the legendary performance division. At the heart of those ambitions is the new M3 generation, which has been completely redesigned to compete with ICE and EV competitors like the Mercedes-AMG C63.

The current M3’s 3.0-liter, straight-six twin-turbo engine (S58) complies with future emissions standards, guaranteeing that combustion power will continue to be available for the M3 as long as demand exists. The Neue Klasse platform from BMW will serve as the foundation for the all-electric variant. The team is also intending to maintain our combustion automobiles and is working on the most recent pollution rules for combustion engines.

The next-generation 3 Series, which is scheduled for release next year, will serve as the basis for the EV version, while the ICE vehicle is probably going to be a much upgraded “G80” M3 with Neue Klasse design elements. The first generation of BMW’s electric performance vehicles will weigh more than their combustion predecessors because buyers expect a workable range from their EVs, which requires large, heavy batteries. However, it is  proposed that it has the potential to install smaller battery packs, hence lowering weight, that comes with the widespread use of public EV chargers.

It will ultimately be entirely electric. When all-electric, high-performance automobiles are produced in the future, the next concern will be the infrastructure needed for charging them.  M engineers are exploring a novel quad-motor powertrain layout in prototypes, which will be essential to pleasing the picky driver. This enables complete torque vectoring across all four wheels, enabling a flawless line and the accuracy of a M vehicle.

Crucially, the sports division will have custom parts for every significant component of a BMW M electric drivetrain. It will continue to employ components from its parent firm as the foundation for electric systems that are more performance-oriented and have higher power. It has always used substantially modified versions of ordinary BMW engines.
