Volkswagen and Skoda have joined the list of Indian automakers aiming to introduce hybrid vehicles in the nation. Strong hybrid midsize SUVs and sedans are being developed by European companies, with a 2028 launch date anticipated. The IMP21 platform will support Volkswagen and Skoda’s hybrid SUVs and cars.

Strong hybrid, electric, and internal combustion engine powertrains are all supported by the CMP architecture.

Skoda Auto’s transition to hybrid vehicles The group’s increasing congruence with India’s regulatory trajectory and the growing demand for fuel-efficient alternatives are reflected in Volkswagen India’s objectives. Together with the group’s long-term electrification objectives, the new hybrid models are a component of a larger compliance strategy to satisfy CAFE 3 standards.

All of these vehicles will have a powerful hybrid engine option. The Grand Vitara and Hyryder are the only hybrid midsize SUVs currently available from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, respectively. In the meanwhile, the Honda City e:HEV will compete with the hybrid cars from Skoda and VW.

By 2028, Skoda and Volkswagen plan to use their highly customized IMP21 platform to launch powerful hybrid midsize SUVs and sedans in India. This calculated action is in line with the tighter CAFE 3 emission standards in India as well as the rising demand from consumers for fuel-efficient automobiles.
