One racing, which is a significant event in the motorsports industry. After the General Motors-backed brand received official clearance from the F1 championship’s commercial rights holders, this became official. Beginning with the 2026 season, the Cadillac F1 team will compete in the championship in collaboration with TWG Motorsports.

The regulatory body, the FIA, and Formula One Management did not confirm until Friday that Cadillac’s F1 team satisfies all the standards to be the 11th team in the series next season, despite the fact that the team was revealed back in November 2024 when organizers agreed to a grid expansion.

Together with Haas F1, which is owned by Californian entrepreneur Gene Haas, Cadillac F1 will be the second American-owned team on the grid. Despite being sponsored by MoneyGram, the Haas team does not have an American driver or a partnership with an American manufacturer, in contrast to Cadillac.

Obtaining official FIA approval for the Cadillac racing team was not a simple process for General Motors. Despite the FIA and Ben Sulayem’s assistance, it took more than four years to get project approval from FOM. The reason for the delay was a tense relationship between Formula One and Michael Andretti, a former driver who was never well received in the European championship. According to Towriss, development is moving quickly, and the Cadillac F1 team has already constructed a 2026 car that has been tested in a wind tunnel. With the recent appointment of industry veteran Russ O’Blenes as CEO of TWG GM Performance Power Units and motorsports and Formula 1 expert Graeme Lowdon as team principal, the team is growing at an incredible rate. By manufacturing the chassis and power units, this recently established business hopes to position Cadillac as a full-works team.

For the first few years, though, the Cadillac F1 team will be getting some of the essential parts from other producers. The team will lease engines from Ferrari until General Motors produces a product ready to compete, as Cadillac's powertrains won’t be ready for a while. The F1 program will be operated from a new facility being constructed in Indiana and a second factory in Silverstone, England, while the powertrains will be constructed in a building on the Hendrick Motorsports property in Concord, North Carolina.
