Maruti Suzuki has been working on its first fully-electric model named eVX for quite some time. A concept of the same made its debut at the Auto Expo last year followed by a more production-near prototype of the same at the inaugural Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year. Suzuki eVX will be based on a skateboard platform and will be produced at SMG located in Hansalpur, Gujarat.
The announcement of the eVX at Auto Expo (now merged with Bharat Mobility Expo) in India in January next year with an aim to launch in early 2025. However, priority will be given to Europe. The upcoming edition of Bharat Mobility Expo scheduled for 17-22 January 2025, will make its global debut later this year but multiple issues led to its delay. Now, it has been confirmed that the carmaker will launch the full production-spec version of the eVX at the scheduled Bharat Mobility Expo.
The report confirms that India will be the primary plant for the eVX, and hence it will also serve as the export hub for the carmaker. It will be produced at the new EV manufacturing facility at Suzuki Motor Gujarat. Besides Europe, it will also be exported to Japan. The Press release claims that most of the units produced here will be reserved for exports with an annual output of 1.5 lakh units. Series production for the eVX is expected to commence early next year.
Test versions of the Suzuki eVX have been spied on numerous occasions over the past few months. The eVX will be based on the brand’s new skateboard platform which should result in a spacious cabin. The battery-powered SUV will be powered by a 60kWh battery pack offering up to 550 km of driving range as per the officials of Maruti Suzuki,. In terms of dimensions, it is 4,300mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,600mm in height.
As part of its international alliance, there will also be a Toyota version of the same which is expected to make its debut a few months after the launch of eVX. Upon launch in India, the Maruti Suzuki eVX will go up against the likes of MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, BYD Atto 3 and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
