Ford's Electric Future: Mustang Mach-E Trademark Signals Indian Market Re-Entry

Ford appears to be gearing up for a comeback in the Indian market, with reports indicating the trademarking of its electric vehicle, the Mustang Mach-E, suggesting a potential entry into the country. The American automaker“s return has been long anticipated, with speculation revolving around models like the Endeavour and now the electric Mustang Mach-E.

When Ford announced its exit from India in 2021, it hinted at introducing the Mustang Mach-E through the direct import route. Now, with the trademarking confirmed, it seems that the company is indeed considering bringing this electric coupe to Indian shores.

Details regarding the timeline for the Mustang Mach-E”s debut in India remain undisclosed. However, it is likely that the electric vehicle will enter the market through the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route, allowing Ford to import up to 2,500 units without the need for homologation.

In 2021, Ford officially declared its exit plans from India and put its manufacturing plants in Chennai and Gujarat up for sale. While the Gujarat plant was sold to Tata Passenger Electric, Tata Motors, negotiations for the sale of the Chennai plant were halted by Ford.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E boasts an array of variants, including Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT, available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. It is equipped with either a 72 kWh or 91 kWh battery, offering varying power outputs depending on the trim and drivetrain. For instance, the standard rear-wheel-drive variant delivers 262bhp and 430Nm, while the all-wheel-drive variant ramps up to 306bhp and 580Nm. The extended-range version offers even more power, with the rear-wheel-drive variant producing 286bhp and 430Nm, and the all-wheel-drive variant boasting 346bhp and 580Nm. The range-topping GT variant, available exclusively with all-wheel-drive, impresses with 473bhp and 813Nm, while the GT Performance Edition matches this output with 473bhp and 860Nm.

As Ford potentially re-enters the Indian market with the Mustang Mach-E, it highlights the growing importance of electric vehicles in the automotive landscape. With its sleek design, impressive performance, and eco-friendly credentials, the Mustang Mach-E could carve out a niche for itself among Indian consumers seeking sustainable mobility solutions.
