For over 45 years, BMW has been at the forefront of providing armoured protection, with the 7 Series serving as the flagship platform for this purpose since 1978. Now, with the sixth generation 7 Series Protection, BMW continues its legacy of excellence in security engineering. The vehicle undergoes rigorous VR9 treatment, ensuring it meets stringent ballistic certification standards. Armoured components, including 10-millimeter steel plates, reinforced frame, doors, underbody, and bulletproof glass, are all meticulously crafted in-house by BMW.
The BMW 7 Series Protection is designed to withstand highly volatile attacks, from armour-piercing bullets to assault rifle fire, such as that from an AK47. Additionally, the vehicle’s floor and roof are engineered to repel explosions from roadside improvised explosive devices (IEDs), hand grenades, or drone-dropped explosives.
Safety is paramount in the 7 Series Protection, with features like a self-sealing fuel tank and specially reinforced tires. The fuel tank’s unique casing prevents fuel loss or leaks during an attack, while the PAX tires with runflat technology allow the vehicle to travel up to 80 km/h for approximately 30 km even with a total loss of air pressure.
Despite its formidable defenses, the BMW 7 Series Protection doesn’t compromise on luxury and convenience. Each door, weighing 200 kg due to the armour, is equipped with motor-assisted closing for ease of use.
