Kia Syros Launched At Rs 9 Lakh With Design Cues From Kia SUVs EV9, EV3

The base HTK petrol-manual version of the Kia Syros small SUV costs Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-spec diesel-AT version with ADAS costs Rs 17.80 lakh. Since January 3, Kia has begun taking reservations for the Syros in advance for a nominal fee of Rs 25,000. Delivery will begin around the middle of February. The top-spec HTX+ trim comes with an optional ADAS kit that costs Rs 80,000. The Syros lies in the middle between the Sonet and Seltos in terms of price. Whereas the Seltos petrol costs between Rs 11.13 lakh and Rs 20.51 lakh, the Sonet petrol costs between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 14.95 lakh. In a similar vein, Sonet diesel costs between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15.70 lakh.

The Syros is a tallboy SUV with a body length of just under 4 meters that draws design influences from popular Kia SUVs like the EV9 and EV3. Its low-set vertical LED headlamps that extend into the fenders and upright posture make the fascia quite noticeable. The bottom part is heavily covered in cladding, and the top-spec model’s tri-petal design for the 17-inch alloy wheels is eye-catching.

Among its characteristics are flush-fitting door handles, roof rails, a flat glass section that bends abruptly upward before wrapping around the back, and body-coloured B-pillars positioned between all-black A-, C-, and D-pillars. The Syros’s high-mounted L-shaped taillights are positioned on each side of the rear windshield. Lower down, the large rear bumper has turn indicators and vertical stop lights on either side of a two-tone black and silver finish. Aurora Black Pearl, Frost Blue, Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Intense Red, Pewter Olive, and Sparkling Silver are the eight colour choices.

The Syros sports a neat, well-designed dashboard installed by Kia. Two 12.3-inch infotainment and instrument cluster screens, separated by a 5-inch temperature control screen, dominate the centre console. The AC vents are arranged neatly down the length of the dashboard, and the two-spoke steering wheel features a distinctive off-centre Kia emblem.

All four seats have air conditioning, ambient lighting, second-row seats that slide and recline with a centre armrest and 60:40 split-folding capability, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, a panoramic sunroof, an electronic parking brake, a powered driver’s seat, and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Six airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and a Level 2 ADAS suite are among the safety features of the Syros.

There are two engine options available for the Syros, and they may be paired with either manual or automatic gearboxes. Customers who choose Petrol Syros get a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 120 horsepower and 172 Nm. The diesel Syros has a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine with 116 horsepower and 250 Nm. Both engines come with a 6-speed manual transmission, although purchasers can choose a 7-speed DCT for the gasoline version and a 6-speed torque converter for the diesel version.
