Kia Syros Launched; Bookings To Commence On January 3, Price Reveal Later

Today, Kia made the world debut of the brand-new Syros small SUV in India. After the Sonet, Kia’s second vehicle in the sub-4-meter class, the Syros solves a major issue with the latter: rear-seat capacity. It has a brand-new design language that is found on larger Kia products like the EV9. It comes with gasoline and diesel engines at the moment, but an all-electric version will be added later.

The Syros appears to have been influenced visually by international Kia EVs like the EV9 and EV3. The SUV has an upright, boxy snout and headlights that are stacked vertically at the bumper’s corners. It has a unique drop-down LED daytime running lamp element in addition to three LED projector units. The upper half of the nose is sealed off, much like in EVs, and the air intakes are located in the lower, blacked-out section that is trimmed in contrasting silver.

The tallboy design of the Syros, which is seen in its profile, is one of its most unique features. Additionally, the window line is evocative of the Skoda Yeti due to the body-coloured B-pillars replacing the blacked-out A-, C-, and D-pillars. You also get flush-fitting door handles, a noticeable kink in the rear window line, thick plastic cladding over the wheel arches, and alloy wheels with a three-petal design (the highest grade goes up to 17 inches). The back bumper has a two-tone black and silver finish, and the high-mounted L-shaped taillights encircle the rear glass.

The Syros’ dimensions are as follows: 3,995 mm for length, 1,800 mm for width, 1,665 mm for height, and 2,550 mm for wheelbase. In comparison to the Sonet, it is now 55 mm higher, 10 mm wider, and has a 50 mm longer wheelbase. The Sonet’s 385-litre boot capacity has been surpassed by the 465-litre boot capacity. According to Kia, additional internal room is made available by the tallboy design and longer wheelbase. Frost Blue, Pewter Olive, Aurora Black Pearl, Intense Red, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Sparkling Silver, and Glacier White Pearl are the eight colour options available for the Syros from Kia.

The twin 12.3-inch infotainment and instrument cluster displays, along with the 5-inch temperature control screen, make up the Syros’ redesigned dashboard, which is a significant improvement over the Sonet. According to Kia, this creates a 30-inch display. Inspired by the EV3, the redesigned two-spoke steering wheel has a wireless charging pad and a neatly packed centre compartment. Additionally, the dashboard has horizontally flowing lines that are highlighted by ambient lighting, a band of physical switches for the HVAC settings, and well-hidden AC vents.

The list of features that are available is truly amazing: wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OTA updates for the infotainment system, in-car connectivity technology, all four ventilated seats, a powered driver’s seat, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, an electronic parking brake, six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and a Level 2 ADAS suite.

A 120hp, 172Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT and a 116hp, 250Nm 1.5-litre diesel with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic are the two engine options available for the Syros. Prices for the new Syros are anticipated to be revealed by Kia in February. It will go up against a number of other small SUVs, including the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Brezza, and the soon-to-be Skoda Kylaq. Kia has stated that deliveries would begin in early February; however, reservations will open on January 3.
