Maruti Suzuki’s New SUV On Cards: Mass Market Hybrid Vehicle
Although it is well known that Maruti Suzuki is preparing to introduce the e Vitrara, the company’s first all-electric car, chairman R C Bhargava said at the Q4 results news conference that another SUV is in the works. He also disclosed that the top automaker in India is developing a compact hybrid vehicle for the general public. We have a decent sense of what the new SUV and hybrid might be, even if Bhargava did not disclose any specifics.
Here’s a clue. The new SUV is not a brand-new car and will compete with the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar. And you still can’t guess? We are discussing a Grand Vitara with three rows. The next SUV has been the subject of numerous spy photos and is anticipated to come with two engine options: a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder strong hybrid and a 1.5-liter normally aspirated mild hybrid. Maruti Suzuki now has five SUVs in its lineup: the Brezza, Fronx, Jimny, and the five-seater Grand Vitara.

Only three automakers now produce robust hybrid cars: Honda, Maruti Suzuki, and Toyota. Honda offers the City e:HEV, whereas the former two offer SUVs, the Grand Vitara and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, respectively. The country’s hybrid lineup, which includes the Toyota Hyryder S e-Drive variant, starts at Rs 16.81 lakh ex-showroom in Delhi and is based on these three models. As a result, there are no hybrid cars in the Rs 10 lakh class.
Numerous spy photos have verified that Maruti Suzuki has been developing the Fronx hybrid for some time. Maruti Suzuki is developing its own hybrid, which will keep the price low despite the company’s collaboration with Toyota. Autocar India claims that Maruti’s hybrid vehicles will have a class-leading 35–40 km/l. According to the source, the Fronx will be the first model in the hybrid lineup, followed by the Swift, Baleno, and Brezza.
