Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed Unveiled With Same 585hp 4.0-Litre V8 Engine.

The PureSpeed speedster was initially seen at the Monaco Grand Prix in May in concept form, and Mercedes-AMG has now debuted the production version. Based on the SL roadster, the PureSpeed is the first model in Mercedes’ extremely premium and limited-edition Mythos collection; the firm intends to produce only 250 of these vehicles.

Despite being based on the SL, the PureSpeed has undergone a significant overhaul, with the AMG Project One clearly having an effect on the front end. The most distinctive characteristic of the PureSpeed, however, is that it lacks an A-pillar or windscreen in favour of a high-strength steel framing that resembles a halo—a design element that was influenced by Formula One. In reference to the 300 SLR, the halo is composed of a bracket that is fixed to the vehicle’s body and ends in a hump behind the seats.

The front end also has revised air intakes and a bespoke bonnet to enhance aerodynamics. A special diffuser is mounted at the back, and the trunk lid has been altered to compensate for the lack of a roof. It has 21-inch carbon fibre-covered forged aluminum wheels and an enlarged rear spoiler. An active aerodynamic element that increases downforce on the front axle is hidden beneath the underbody. The PureSpeed has a unique livery that changes from red to gray and has the number 10 on its flanks, paying homage to the Mercedes that won the 1924 Targa Florio. The AMG Performance seats, with their distinctive leather covering and decorative stitching, have not been altered as much on the interior as on the outside.

Mercedes will also be selling two aerodynamically built helmets with an integrated intercom system to let drivers and passengers communicate. Furthermore, it might be integrated with the car’s entertainment system to play music and make phone calls. Mercedes hasn’t made any significant changes to the engine. The PureSpeed’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine still produces 585 horsepower and 800 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels using Mercedes’ 4Matic technology, and the engine is connected to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes claims that the PureSpeed can sprint from 0 to 100 kph in 3.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 315 kph. Mercedes’ Active Ride Control technology is also included with the PureSpeed to enhance the suspension. Carbon ceramic brakes and dynamic rear-axle steering are standard.
