New Audi A5 Revealed, Replaces A4 Globally; Gets Petrol, Mild-Hybrid Petrol And Diesel Engines
The A5 is the new name for Audi’s A4 replacement, which has been revealed. This new generation model is available in sedan and estate body types, in contrast to the preceding A5, which was a sleek, four-door coupe. The German company’s new naming policy for its next-generation cars includes changing the name from A4 to A5, with even numbers assigned to EVs and odd numbers to internal combustion models.
The 17-year-old MLB architecture of the existing A4 has been replaced by Audi’s new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) in the new A5. Please take note that this platform has nothing to do with the Premium Platform Electric, which powers vehicles like the Porsche Macan EV and the Q6 e-tron. Although the A5’s engine configuration is still longitudinal, Audi asserts that it can support a variety of electrified powertrains. Although the PPC may accommodate range-extending EV powertrains, but Audi has no plans to include one in the A5.

The A5 is 13 mm wider (at 1.86 m) and 67 mm longer (at 4.83 m) than the departing A4 because of the new platform. It has a 2.9-meter wheelbase, which is 68 mm longer. The A5’s design is a development of the A4’s and incorporates certain design cues from the A6 e-tron sedan concept. Highlights include the visible exhaust tips, OLED light units with up to eight patterns, and the wide wheel arches that Audi designers refer to as “Quattro muscle.”
The new A5’s internal technology is similar to that of the Q6 e-tron. Of course, the big curved screen is the main attraction. It has a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen with all the climate control and seat heating/ventilation features, as well as an 11.9-inch digital driver display. The 10.9-inch front passenger-side touchscreen that Audi provides as an optional extra has a filter that blocks the driver’s view of it.

Initially, the A5 will be powered by 48V mild hybrid and internal combustion engines. For increased efficiency and regenerative braking, the hybrids employ Audi’s innovative MHEV Plus technology, which uses two motor generators in addition to the standard integrated starter-generator and a centrally located powertrain generator. The benefit of this system is that it produces 18kW (24hp) and 230Nm of torque, and it can now recover up to 25kW, which is more than three times the old S4’s 8kW limit.
