New Nissan SUV And MPV Launch Timelines Confirmed; Future Plans For Magnite, Other Models

Nissan India MD Saurabh Vatsa denied recent rumors that the company was leaving the Indian market during the virtual launch of the Magnite CNG, stating that the company is still totally dedicated to the country. The pre-production of our next B-MPV and C-SUV has already started at the Renault facility in Chennai, Vatsa continued. “I am also happy to say that all our product plans are on track and well underway.”

Given that it presently exports the small SUV in both right-hand drive and left-hand drive configurations to more than 65 countries, Nissan will continue to invest in the Magnite lifetime in addition to the three new products. Vatsa stated that “we will continue developing that product” and that “both engines in the Magnite are now E20-compliant starting this April.”

Fascinatingly, Vatsa stated that “multiple CBUs are also under active consideration” in spite of Nissan’s recent X-Trail CBU’s inability to find buyers. He did not rule out EVs or hybrids, but he did rule out diesel vehicles for the near future and for the locally planned cars. “We are researching all of them, whether they are hybrids, EVs, or CNG, and we will discuss this further in 2027 for the CAFE standards then.”

“Reports of our exit are all untrue, and there is no reason for us to exit,” Vatsa stated, reaffirming Nissan’s dedication to India. He went on to say that the business has already started using the 700 million it had previously announced to invest in India for its new product ambitions. Additionally, according to Vatsa, Nissan India aims to produce one million cars for both the domestic and international markets. “Therefore, we are not retreating from anything, as you can see from our ongoing development of the Magnite and the upcoming new products.”

Vatsa reaffirmed that Nissan’s decision to end its manufacturing partnership with Renault was made in order to “make the brand more agile” and support the expansion of both parties. Vatsa responded, “Not at all. We have a wonderful partnership and agreement with Renault and when we were in-charge of the plant, there was no production-supply problems for either partner, so why should there be any now,” when asked if the new arrangement will have an impact on Nissan’s product supply. The sustainability of the plant depends on both spouses, who are capable and mature.

However, its dealers are currently having trouble with viability. Along with this, Vatsa acknowledged that Nissan had lost a few dealers. But according to Vatsa, the corporation presently operates 159 stores, and measures are in the works to address dealer profitability and support Nissan’s continued network expansion.

Nissan’s near future in India is still very apparent, and since its partner Renault is investing in local production of the new Duster 5- and 7-seat SUV, it makes sense for Nissan to continue producing its own versions of the vehicle. However, how well these new models are received will be critical to Nissan’s long-term survival in India, and given the abundance of options in the markets they intend to explore, Nissan and Renault have their job cut out for them.
