Xiaomi YU7 Boasts 770 Km Range; Set To Launch This Summer
In every way, Tesla’s trip through China is a tragic comedy. Comedy for its rivals and tragedy for the Elon Musk-led business. According to a survey by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), the American EV manufacturer fell to seventh place in China after sales in February fell 51.5% from January and 49.2% from the previous year.
The adage “one man’s nightmare is another man’s dream” best describes Tesla’s current predicament. Tesla’s sales are down, but the biggest EV manufacturer in the world, BYD, is catching up, and Xiaomi, the massive smartphone manufacturer, has chosen to join the fray. In addition to outselling Tesla’s Model 3 in December, Xiaomi is getting ready to introduce the YU7 SUV, which will directly compete with Tesla’s Model Y. It appears that Tesla’s journey through China has become even more thrilling.
This summer, Xiaomi plans to introduce the YU7, a revolutionary crossover SUV. According to official records that Reuters obtained, the YU7 will come in three different models, each having a range of 770, 675, and 760 kilometres on a single charge. The Chinese CLTC standard is the basis for these numbers.
Tesla released the upgraded 2025 version of Model Y at the end of February and based on rumours the new EV SUV has a substantially greater range. The rear-drive version gives 593 km, up from 554 km, while the long-range version offers 719 km, up from 688 km, per charge.
Xiaomi aspires to be a significant force in the EV market. The car has already outsold the well-liked Tesla car 3 in terms of sales since its 2023 launch in China with the SU7 sedan. In February, Xiaomi unveiled the SU7 Ultra, which is now their flagship EV, to further establish its position.
With three electric motors, this high-performance car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 1.98 seconds, produce an incredible 1,527 horsepower, and reach a peak speed of 350 kmph. Superior handling and control are also provided by the SU7 Ultra’s peak chassis system, which was refined at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Tesla faces a tough battle in China as BYD and Xiaomi rise, threatening its dominance with superior EV technology and competitive pricing.
