As Hotels Shut Over Gas Shortage, Lakhs Lose Livelihoods, Migrant Labourers Return

The LPG crisis is not only affecting the hotels and eateries, but their dependent laborers across the state. Lakhs of migrant workers have reportedly returned home since many hotels and restaurants ceased operation due to the LPG shortage, The Hindu reports.

The workers have lost their livelihood as well as the management, while the ordinary people also suffer due to the non-availability of meals while they are out on work-related matters. The oil shortage due to the ongoing war in West Asia has hit globally, with Iran shutting down the vital oil route The Strait of Hormuz, disrupting the global supply.

Lakhs of laborers were engaged in hotels, catering units, roadside eateries, fast food centers, sweet stalls, snacks and tea stalls in Andhra Pradesh, and most of them have returned home since the crisis hit the sector.

The shortage of commercial gas cylinders has severely impacted all states, as workers from Odisha, West Bengal, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other states are losing their jobs.
