Delhi Police Summons BharatPe Co-founder Ashneer Grover and His Wife Madhuri Jain on Rs.81-crore Fraud Case

The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police has asked BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain to appear at the EOW’s Mandir Marg office on November 21 in connection with an alleged Rs. 81-crore fraud case. The couple was stopped at Delhi Airport on Thursday as they were heading to the U.S. after a lookout circular was issued against them following an FIR against Grover, Madhuri Jain, and their family members Deepak Gupta, Suresh Jain, and Shwetank Jain in May.

Grover and his family are accused of perpetrating a fraud by constituting bogus human resource consultants and handing over illegitimate payments to them. They allegedly handed over inflated and undue payments through pass-through vendors with whom they had connections and made bogus transactions as input tax credit and payment of penalty to GST authorities. They are also accused of conducting illegal payments to travel agencies, forging invoices, and destroying evidence. According to EOW sources, a status report has been filed before the court on November 7.

If found guilty, the accused would have to face a sentence of up to 10 years. Another civil suit filed before the Delhi High Court by BharatPe accuses the couple and the family of causing damages worth Rs. 88.67 crore by perpetrating cheating and embezzlement of funds.

BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover resigned from the company and its board on March 1, 2022, following the sacking of his wife Madhuri Jain Grover for alleged financial irregularities. The board also cancelled her stock options, which prompted her to release several video clips of office parties and allege that the top brass indulged in “drunken orgies”. She also accused the board of being “chauvinistic” and treating women as objects..
