Dhruv Loya, a Technical Support Specialist at Tesla, recently shared his inspiring journey to employment on LinkedIn, revealing the determination it took to land his new role.
After submitting over 300 applications, sending more than 500 cold emails, and undergoing 10 interviews, Loya finally received a job offer from Tesla. Reflecting on this experience, he expressed immense gratitude for the support he received from friends and family, as well as the resilience he had to muster in the face of numerous challenges.
Despite having completed three internships, maintaining a strong GPA, and actively participating in extracurricular activities, Loya found himself unemployed for five months. This period was marked by significant hardships: he lost his housing lease, faced health insurance challenges, and lived under the constant pressure of his visa status, knowing he might be forced to leave the United States at any time. For months, he moved between friends’ apartments, often sleeping on air mattresses and saving every penny to make ends meet.

Today, however, his perseverance has paid off, and he has secured a full-time role with Tesla. Acknowledging the difficult job market, particularly for international students, Loya advises others facing similar struggles to treat job hunting like a 9-to-5 job, while also taking time to relax and engage in enjoyable activities to avoid burnout.
Loya credited a few key resources that aided his job search, including Hunter.io for cold emailing, job platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, Handshake, and Jobright.ai, as well as ChatGPT+ for customising his resume and cover letters. He encouraged others to stay positive, keep manifesting, and trust that things will eventually align in their favour.
