Over a whopping amount of Rs 54,63,016 was spent by the Indian Embassy in Switzerland on behalf of the visit of Union ministers for World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024. 

The information was obtained by Amravati-based activist Ajay Bose under the Right to Information Act (RTI). The RTI response in question revealed that the embassy has spent this huge amount on the hospitality of the ministers and their family members during their visit to Switzerland. 

Sharing the RTI on X, Ajay Bose wrote, “RTI reply recvd 4m Embassy of India in Switzerland reveals 3 Senior Cabinet Ministers of Modi Govt  @smritiirani @AshwiniVaishnaw @HardeepSPuri along with 12 Senior Govt Officals visited World Economic Forum Conference in Davos Switzerland in January 2024 MOUs Signed = Nil Total MOUs Worth ie Investment = Zero But Indian Embassy in Switzerland Spent a Whopping Rs 54,63,016 on their Hospitality, this apart from what Govt of India spent on their visit I leave it upon people of India to judge about this Extravagant tour”. 

Union ministers Smriti Irani, Ashwini Vaishnaw and Hardeep Singh Puri attended the meeting along with other 12 senior government officials. 

As per the RTI, the other officials who attended are Rajesh Kumar Singh, Balamurugan D, MB Ramanjaneyulu, Rajesh Kumar Kanaujia, Kamlesh Kumar, Balram Kumar, Arkaja Das, Abhas Katra Singh, Rasal Dwivedi, Shakikanta Das, Satyashiba Panigrahi and Muneesh Kapur. 

The RTI response revealed that no Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) was signed during the WEF conference. 

The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024 is the international organisation for public-private Cooperation that engages in foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas. The 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum took place at Davos Kloster from 15th to 19th January 2019.
