Keltron Secures Landmark Export Deal: To Supply 3,000 Coconics Laptops To Zimbabwe
In a significant milestone for Kerala’s electronics sector, the Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) has entered into a historic partnership with Zimbabwe, marking a new chapter in the company’s global expansion.
The agreement was finalised during a high-level meeting in Kochi, where Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce met with Kerala’s Minister for Industries, Coir and Law, P Rajeev. At the event, an official purchase order was ceremonially handed over on Friday.
The first phase of the deal involves the supply of 3,000 Coconics laptops, designed and manufactured in Kerala under Keltron’s umbrella. The purchase order was placed by Sindia, a Zimbabwe-based company, making this the first large-scale export of Kerala’s homegrown laptops to the African nation.

Speaking about the achievement, Minister Rajeev noted that this is not merely a trade deal but the beginning of a deeper technological partnership between Kerala and Zimbabwe.
Beyond laptops, Keltron is preparing to introduce a wider range of its products and services in Zimbabwe. Discussions at the ministerial level covered the possible export of traffic signal systems, solar energy solutions, and knowledge services, all of which have been core areas of Keltron’s expertise over the years.

To strengthen its footprint in Africa, Keltron has also expressed readiness to establish a skill development centre, a knowledge-sharing hub, and a laptop assembly unit in Zimbabwe. This move is expected to generate local employment, transfer technical expertise, and solidify Kerala’s position as a trusted partner in Zimbabwe’s industrial growth.
Adding further weight to the collaboration, the Zimbabwean minister extended an official invitation to Keltron to participate in the product launch ceremony to be held in Zimbabwe. The event is expected to showcase Kerala-made technology on a global stage, enhancing Kerala’s reputation in international electronics manufacturing.
Minister Rajeev, who is also a former Chief Editor of Deshabhimani and a Central Committee Member of the CPI(M), took to Facebook, emphasising that Keltron’s consistent expansion is a matter of pride for Kerala.
He described the Zimbabwe deal as “a shining new chapter in Keltron’s history,” symbolising the state’s ability to compete and collaborate in international markets.
Keltron, founded in 1973, has played a pioneering role in Kerala’s industrial modernisation and continues to diversify into IT services, defence electronics, and renewable energy.
