As June 1 approaches, several significant regulatory changes will come into effect, impacting various aspects of daily life in India. New driving license regulations, Aadhaar card update deadlines, LPG cylinder price adjustments, and bank holidays include key updates. Here’s what you need to know:
Driving License Overhaul
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced a new process for obtaining driving licenses starting June 1, 2024. Prospective drivers can now take their driving tests at private training centres instead of government Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). These certified private centres will be authorized to conduct tests and issue eligibility certifications, aiming to streamline the process and reduce wait times.
In addition, the government is taking steps to combat pollution by phasing out approximately 900,000 old government vehicles and tightening car emission standards. Speeding fines remain between ₹1,000 and ₹2,000, but if a minor is caught driving, they face a hefty ₹25,000 fine, and the vehicle owner”s registration card will be cancelled. The minor will also be barred from obtaining a driving license until they reach 25 years old.
Aadhaar Card Updates
For those needing to update their Aadhaar card, the deadline to do so online without a fee is June 14. Offline updates are still available but will incur a fee of ₹50 per update. Ensuring your Aadhaar details are current is crucial for accessing various government services and benefits.
LPG Cylinder Price Adjustments
On June 1, oil companies will announce the new prices for LPG cylinders. Following a reduction in commercial cylinder prices in May, there is anticipation of further decreases in June. Additionally, daily changes in petrol and diesel prices are expected, reflecting ongoing adjustments in the energy market.
Bank Holidays in June
According to the Reserve Bank of India”s (RBI) list of bank holidays, Banks will be closed for 10 days in June, including all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays. Additional holidays include Raja Sankranti and Eid-ul-Adha. It”s advisable to check the holiday schedule to plan your banking activities accordingly.
Additional Updates
As a reminder, these changes come amidst ongoing efforts to modernize various sectors and improve regulatory compliance across India. Keeping abreast of these updates ensures that individuals and businesses can smoothly navigate the transitions and avoid potential disruptions. Stay informed and prepare for these changes to ensure compliance and take full advantage of the new regulations starting June 1.
