Ola has joined the ONDC platform for food delivery services. This is visible only to a select small number of users for now. The testing had been on recently, with the feature available only on the app for the Ola employees.
The feature on the app is under ‘OLA ONDC food’, Ola will not be launching a separate app for food delivery, reported the mint.
This could lead Ola into breaking the duopoly of Swiggy and Zomato. “This is big for Ola, this is likely to compete with Swiggy and others… This feature is not available for everyone, only a handful of users for now and is likely to be open for all, ” money control reported an industry source.
Addressing the India Internet Day at Bengaluru on August 24, Ola’s chief executive officer (CEO) Bhavish Aggarwal, is reported to have said that the company would be joining the government ONDC platform, said the money control.
This is not Ola’s first foray into this market, In 2015, Ola had launched a grocery store in Bengaluru and an app for food delivery in the same year. In nine months, Ola had closed Ola store and Ola foods. Money control also reported that in 2022, Ola had plans to integrate its cloud kitchen business and 10-minute grocery delivery.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Ola founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, as having a plan to bring in a new CEO for its cab business. As per the data from business intelligence platform Tofler, Ola cab’s loss for the year 2021-2022 is Rs. 3,082. Reported the mint.
ONDC is a government backed, non-profit platform which aims at networking and enabling of services and products listed on the platform. ONDC is expected to transform and democratise e-commerce and to become an growth engine in redefining the entire industry.
