RapidX train, India”s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) will be renamed as NaMo Bharat. This name change came a day before its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister will flag off a RRTS, connecting Sahibabad and Duhai Depot stations, on Friday.
Congress took a dig at PM Modi over the name change. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote on X: “After Namo stadium now Namo trains. There is simply no limit to his self-obsession.”
RapidX, a rail-based commuter transit system is executed by the agency, National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).

CCTV Cameras, Wifi, Platform Screen Doors (PSD), and emergency door-opening mechanism are some of the safety features in the RapidX trains. Besides it also includes features such as air conditioning system (HVAC), luggage racks, dynamic route maps, heating ventilation, laptop or mobile charging facility, and auto control ambient lighting system.
The 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor will open on October 21, a day after its inauguration. This This priority section includes five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, developed at a cost of more than ₹ 30,000 crore, will connect Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour. It will pass through urban centres of Ghaziabad, Muradnagar and Modinagar.
RapidX trains can operate up to the speed of 160 kmh outperforming both metro trains and Indian Railways” passenger trains. The entire 82.15 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is planning to be functional by June 2025.
