Reliance Jio and NVIDIA to team together to bring in an AI cloud infrastructure to India, a Jio release said. According to the Indian telecommunication firm, this would accelerate India’s efforts at developing AI, which would enable India’s growing competitiveness and will also enable to address the social challenges faced by India.
With the advanced AI computing infrastructure, Reliance is expected to build large language models that power generative AI applications made in India.
The cloud AI infrastructure aims to help researchers, developers, startups, scientists, AI practitioners and others across for accessing high speed computing, securing cloud networking for work with extreme energy efficiency.
The release also said that this would speed up a wide range of India’s key initiatives and AI projects, including AI chatbots, drug discovery, climate research and more.
Among the many benefits, this initiative is expected to help farmers interact through phones in their own language on weather and price information, expert diagnosis can be done on medical symptoms and imaging of scans where doctors may not be available immediately. AI could be used to predict cyclonic storms which could in turn help those who are at risk, the release said.
The end-to-end AI supercomputer technologies including CPU, GPU, networking, and AI operating systems and frameworks for building the most advanced AI models will be provided by NVIDIA and Jio will be in care of the AI cloud infrastructure and oversee customer engagement and access.
In the partnership, NVIDIA will provide its most advanced GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and NVIDIA DGX Cloud which is an AI supercomputing service in the cloud, the NVIDIA release said.
On the partnership, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman & Managing Director, Reliance Industries Limited, said, “as India advances from a country of data proliferation to creating technology infrastructure for widespread and accelerated growth, computing and technology super centres like the one we envisage with NVIDIA will provide the catalytic growth just like Jio did to our nation’s digital march. I am delighted with the partnership with NVIDIA and looking forward to a purposeful journey together.”
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, joined by saying, ” together, we will develop an advanced AI cloud infrastructure that is secure, sustainable, and are deeply relevant to India”s unique opportunities. This state-of-the- art platform will be a catalyst in accelerating AI-driven innovations across sectors, from healthcare and education to enterprise solutions. Our vision is to make AI accessible to researchers, start-ups, and enterprises across the nation, thereby accelerating India”s journey towards becoming an AI powerhouse.”
Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang said on this, “we are delighted to partner with Reliance to build state-of-the-art AI supercomputers in India.” He added that India has the scale, data and talent for this.
