JioCinema & Disney+ Hotstar Unite As JioHotstar: Offers Revised Subscription Plans

JioStar, a joint venture between Viacom18 and Star India, announced the launch of ‘JioHotstar’ on Friday. This new platform brings together  JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, two of India’s leading OTT platforms, offering users a vast library of content.

This merger is set to create India’s largest media conglomerate by merging these two streaming platforms along with 120 television channels.


According to JioStar, the new platform boasts a good collection of close to 3 lakh hours of entertainment and a massive user base of over 50 crore subscribers. The platforms are combining their content and pooling their subscribers unitedly.

During the launch of JioHotstar, Kiran Mani, CEO of JioStar, talked about JioHotstar’s bold vision to democratise premium entertainment for all Indians.

He stated that the platform is committed to making entertainment inclusive, not exclusive. With AI-powered recommendations and content available in over 19 languages, revolutionising personalised entertainment.

As part of the transition,  JioHotstar will be replacing the old subscription plans with new ones. Recently, JioCinema’s premium subscriptions were paused, hinting at the introduction of new plans.

While the detailed plans are yet to be announced, JioHotstar will offer compelling subscription plans starting at ₹149 per quarter. Existing subscribers of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar will be able to seamlessly transition to JioHotstar and set up their new subscriptions.

The parties will also divest seven television channels, which include Hungama and Super Hungama. This complies with the conditional permission granted by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for the merger of the two companies.
