The world’s largest shipping company MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) has launched its first unit in Kerala. A 20,000-square-foot space has been taken up at Lulu Cyber Tower in Infopark Phase 1 for the company’s IT operation.

The company intends to complete its construction at the earliest. Minister of Industries, P Rajeev, on the launch of the new venture, said that this is one of the biggest advances in Kerala’s efforts to become the hub of the country in the maritime sector which has been marked as an important sector in the state’s industrial policy. He also added that yet another international Kongsberg has begun its operation in Kochi last month. The starting of another company in the very next month proves that Kerala is moving towards the direct direction.

The development of IT infrastructure in Kerala has got a shot in the arm with both the state and private sector lugging it in unison to new heights. Lulu Group has built its tallest IT industry complex here with the capacity to accommodate about 30,000 IT professionals.

As per the local media reports, MSC will provide employment opportunities for 250 people.

Mediterranean Shipping Company is an international shipping company founded in Italy in 1970 by Gianluigi Aponte. Headquartered in Geneva since 1978. It is the world’s largest container shipping company in terms of ship size and cargo capacity. The company controls 19.7 percent of the global container shipping industry.

The MSC group operates in 155 countries and owns around 700 cargo ships, including some of the world’s largest motherships.
