
9 Indian Institutes in QS World Ranking Top 50; MIT Ranks No.1 for 13th Consecutive Year
Nine Indian Institutes have secured spots in the world’s top 50 QS World University Ranking by Subject. The Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, leads among Indian institutions with a rank of 20 globally in Engineering – Mineral and Mining.
Quacquarelli Symonds released the QS World University Rankings featuring over 1,500 universities across over 100 education systems. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has ranked top for the 13th consecutive year.
IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay are the only IITs in the broad Engineering and Technology category to get into the top 50 slots, with a ranking of 26th and 28th respectively.

India’s overall presence in the ranking has grown from 69 to 79 this year. India has observed fifth – highest number of new entries after China, US, UK and Korea.

Rise And Drop In Rankings
- IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay shows uptick in the ranking under the overall Engineering and Technology field from its collective 45 th spot to 26th and 28th this year.
- IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur saw a slide in their Engineering – Mineral and Mining ranking to 40th and 45th, respectively.
- IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore also fell from their earlier rankings from 22 and 32 to 27 and 40 respectively.
- IIT Madras and JNU also saw a slip in their ranking from the last year.

Rising strength in tech and AI
India has been ranked fourth globally in Computer Science & Information Systems with 42 ranked institutions, an increase from 28 last year.
