Syed Adnan Mian, a third-year undergraduate student in the Department of Biotechnology, has brought laurels to Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) by being selected for the prestigious Khorana Program for Scholars 2025. As part of this program, he has been placed at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, where he will contribute to cutting-edge biomedical research.
This highly competitive scholarship, jointly supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) – Government of India, the Indo-U.S. Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF), and WINStep Forward, provides outstanding Indian students with the opportunity to undertake cutting-edge research at top U.S. institutions.

This program offers Indian undergraduate and postgraduate students in biotechnology and allied areas the opportunity to undertake research internships at leading U.S. universities for a duration of 10-12 weeks during the summer.

How to apply for Khorana Scholarship?
Eligibility Criteria:
- The scholarship is open to Indian citizens currently pursuing:
- Bachelor’s (B.Tech/B.Sc)
- Master’s (M.Tech/M.Sc)
- Integrated degrees in Biotechnology and related fields (e.g., Life Sciences, Agriculture, Medicine, Bioinformatics)
- Must have completed at least 2 years of the degree program
- Minimum GPA/CGPA of 8.0/10 or equivalent
- Strong interest in pursuing research
