After the shutting down of the schools due to the dense fog engulfing the national capital, the Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education today ordered the physical classes to be resumed from Tomorrow (Monday). “It is directed that all students of Government, Government Aided and Recognised Private Schools shall join back classes in physical mode at their respective schools with effect from 15/01/2024 (Monday). This includes Nursery, KG and Primary classes as well,” the order reads.
Taking the current situation in Delhi into consideration, with the foggy weather continuing in several parts of the city, the order has made some directives on the timing of the classes. The direction says that no schools will function before 9 am or after 5 pm. The order directed all staff and teachers to report for duty as usual.
Given the harsh cold wave of the city, the Delhi education minister Atishi had announced an extended winter break earlier. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several areas of Northern India recorded zero visibility because of the thick fog.
Some areas of Delhi recorded a high drop in temperature. Safdarguni area of Delhi saw a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius, while Palam recorded a minimum of 5.9 degrees Celsius. Other recorded temperature includes 3.4 degrees Celsius in Lodhi Road, 4.0 in Ayanagar, and 4.4 degrees Celsius in Ridge at 8:30 am.
