Authored Wife's PhD Research, Complaint Filed Against Associate Professor In Kozhikode
Kozhikode, Kerala: A complaint has been filed against an Associate Professor at Government College Madappally in Vadakara for allegedly authoring majority of the doctoral research of his wife, who is currently pursuing her PhD. Associate Professor, Shinas AM, had earlier shared a social media post, stating that he wrote nearly three-fourths of ‘his wife’s thesis’, hence he is withdrawing it, reports news portal Media One.
As the post went viral among the academic community and became a talking point, Shinas removed his post from social media. However, following this, many raised eyebrows and sought action against the professor for compromising academic integrity and losing trust as a lecturer.
The complaint, addressed to Calicut University Vice Chancellor Dr. P. Raveendran and governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, seeks action against the professor citing violations of University Grant Commission (UGC) guidelines. The petition was filed by Muslim Student Federation (MSF) leader and Calicut University Senate Member Ameen Rashid.
In his letter, Rashid mentioned that he is formally lodging a complaint against Associate Professor for serious violations of academic and professional ethics as well as the rules governing government servants.

“As per University Grant Commission (UGC) guidelines, it is strictly prohibited for any individual to assist or influence a PhD aspirant’s research in such a manner, as the process is intended to be an individual academic endeavor,” the complaint noted, adding that associate professor’s action constituted a serious breach of academic integrity and violated the basic principles of independent research required by the UGC regulation.
The complainant demanded a thorough investigation into the associate professor’s conduct. Notably, the presence of Shinas in the Left’s social and cultural events have added political colour to the debate.
