BHU To Start Two New Scholarships For Chemistry Department In The Coming Session

The Banaras Hindu University, is starting two new scholarships for the students of Chemistry from the next academic session.

The donation to start the scholarships is made by Madan Mohan Kayastha, an alumnus of BHU and his wife Santosh Kayastha. He received MTech in Industrial Chemistry from BHU in 1951.

Earlier in December, Kayastha had instituted four scholarships of worth Rs 20 lakh, i.e two for Chemistry and two for Law of Rs 5 lakh each. The two chemistry fellowships were presented to one female student of 1st year of BSc (Hons), Chemistry and one to MSc, Chemistry at the Institute of Science. In addition, Bhagwati and Mulk Raj Mahajan Scholarships were also set up as a tribute to the parents of Santosh Kayastha. These scholarships were given to first year female students of BA (LLB) Hons and a second year student of LLM programme. 

The new scholarships will encourage excellence and competitiveness among students, commVice-Chancellor Prof. Suhdir Kumar Jain, during an interaction with the donors at his official residence on Wednesday, expressed gratitude for their commitment towards Banaras Hindu University and their spirit of giving back to the society. He said that their attachment with the university and the students is remarkable.  Director, Institute of Science, Prof. Sanjay Kumar also praised the educational support of the Kayastha family. 

The fact that Banaras Hindu University recognised Madan Mohan Kayastha and his family’s donation of support and regard was a significant event for them, according to Madan Mohan Kayastha. He hoped that students would benefit from the scholarships as they pursue their education. 

The outstanding contribution of Madan Mohan Kayastha and his wife, according to the Joint Registrar for University Advancement, would serve as a beacon of hope for those who are pursuing greatness and knowledge. 

This generous commitment highlights the alumni’s enduring dedication to supporting various research endeavors and initiatives benefiting students. Recently, the Class of 1974 at IIT Kanpur made a passionate pledge to assist various programs at their alma school, of Rs. 10.11 crore. The promise is made as part of the batch’s Golden Jubilee Reunion, which on February 23–25, 2024, brought together over 80 graduates and their families.
