BHU To Use UGC/CSIR NET Examination, June 2024 Scores For Admission To Ph.D. Programme

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced that admission to the PhD programme for the academic session 2024-25 will be based on the scores of the UGC/CSIR NET Examination, in June 2024. The university said that no separate research entrance test will be organised for PhD admission.

As per the recent announcement by the UGC, published on March 27, 2024, UGC NET-qualified candidates will be eligible for three categories:

  • Category I: PhD admission with JRF and assistant professor posts
  • Category II: PhD admission without JRF and for assistant professor posts
  • Category III: Only for PhD programme admission

Notably, the BHU offers two modes of admission (a) the Research Entrance Test (RET) Mode and (b) Research Entrance Test – Exempted (RET) Mode.

According to the notification released by the university, the JRF qualified candidates will be eligible for the programme under RET Exempted Mode. However, JRF qualified candidates and candidates qualified under the categories II and III will be eligible for consideration under the RET mode.

Furthermore, the university notifies that for PhD under the RTE mode in Institute of Agriculture Sciences, the score of the Agriculture Services Recruitment Board (ASRB) Examination 2024 will be used.

The candidates are advised to apply for the UGC/CSIR NET Examinations of June 2024 to get admission into the PhD programmes in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

It also notifies that students will have to appear for the exams afresh and earlier score of NET will not be applicable for the admission into the academic session 2024-25.

Recently, University Grants Commission (UGC) announced that scores of the National Eligibility Test (NET) will be used for PhD admissions from the 2024-25 academic session. The educational body took the decision in pursuance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Till now universities conducts separate PhD entrance tests for admission.
