CBSE Announces Class 10 And 12 Board Exam Subject Wise Marks Distribution

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued subject-wise distribution of marks for class 10 and 12 board exams for the 2025 session. Students appearing for the board exams can check the details at cbse.gov.in. The Class 10 and 12 board exams will start on February 15, 2025, and the practical examinations and internal assessments will begin on January 1, 2025. However, subject-wise date sheets of theory papers are expected to be released in December.

The CBSE has shared the following details in the circular including class, subject code, subject name, maximum marks in the theory examination, maximum marks in the practical examination, maximum marks in the project assessment, maximum marks in internal assessment, whether an external examiner will be appointed for practical/project assessment, whether practical answer books will be provided by the board and types of answer books that will be used in the theory examinations.

Each subject will be allotted 100 marks that are divided into theory, practicals, projects, and internal assessments according to the specified breakdown.

The CBSE 2025 exam format also reflects key updates in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with a focus on competency-based education. This method highlights the importance of applying knowledge practically rather than relying on memorization. The number of constructed response questions, such as short and long questions will see a reduction in both class 10 and 12 exams.

Practical exams for CBSE schools are scheduled to start on January 1 and for winter-bound schools, the practical exams and internal assessments will be held from November 5 and December 5, 2024. Around 44 lakh students will take the CBSE class 10 board exams in 2025 across the country.
