'No Change In School Textbooks Except For Class 3 And 6': CBSE Clarifies

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a notification to remove doubts and provide clarity about the continuity of the textbooks and existing curriculum. The examination board clarified the doubts circulated surrounding the new curriculum and textbooks for classes other than 3 and 6.

CBSE concerning a circular issued said, “To allay any misgivings and for greater clarity, it is reiterated that for all classes other than 3 and 6, there is no change to the existing curriculum or textbooks. Schools are once again instructed to continue using the same textbooks for these classes as they did in the previous academic year (2023-24)”.

The board said that there will be no change for other classes textbooks for the academic year 2024-25 commencing from April 1, 2024. The NCERT informed CBSE about the new syllabus and textbooks for grades 3 and 6 to be available soon and advised schools to use them from the new academic session. CBSE also announced a bridge course for class 6 and guidelines for class 3 to facilitate a seamless transition for students to new pedagogical practices and areas of study to align with NCF-2023.

Additionally, CBSE asked schools to align with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education – 2023 which includes guidelines concerning content, pedagogical strategies, assessment methodologies, and other pertinent areas communicated by the board from time to time.

It also advised schools to follow the prescribed curriculum and incorporate methodologies such as Multingualism, Art-Integrated Education, Experiential Learning, and Pedagogical Plans. In this regard, schools are requested to visit the board’s website to share the Curriculum 2024-25 with the students and teachers.

CBSE provides the annual curriculum for classes 9 to 12 with underlining academic content, syllabus for examination, pedagogical practices and assessment guideline, the board said.
