CBSE Issues Advisory To Schools To Accurately Assess Practical Exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) directed schools to accurately assess practical exams as a noteworthy variation between theory and practical marks is observed in certain subjects. CBSE has asked affiliated schools to develop a more robust and transparent process. The CBSE notified about the variation via a notice and said that the education board had detected it via advanced artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to analyze the results.

The notice said the previous year’s results data was gathered using the AI tool. The data shows a significant variation between theory and practical marks in certain subjects was observed among 50% or more students in about 500 CBSE-affiliated schools.

Based on the observations the central education board said there is a need for reforms for the meticulous assessment during practical examinations in schools. As a result, the board issued an advisory to those schools where the discrepancies were reported in the assessment process. The education board has asked such schools to review their internal assessment procedures.

To improve the quality of education in the schools and to bring fairness and accuracy to the assessment procedure the advisory works as a reminder to the CBSE-affiliated institutions. CBSE said that implementing an efficient assessment procedure aims to ensure a more robust, transparent, and reliable mechanism to ensure that the assessment process is realistic and adds substantial value to the student’s academic journey.

In recent years, the overall marks and percentage in board exams have increased significantly. Students in CBSE boards and state boards are getting above 90 percent a greater number that has given rise to stiff competition in college admissions.
