Centre Launches Common Fellowship Portal For PhD And Post-Doctoral Fellowships

Several Departments under the Ministry of Science and Technology have come together to extend “Ease of doing Science” to PhD and Post-Doctoral researchers. The collaborative effort has resulted in the creation of the Common Fellowship Portal, where a student can access all the relevant information about the doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships of various Departments of the Government of India.

The Union Minister of Jitender Singh launched the portal where the researchers can get information about the available fellowships through a single window. By gathering all the necessary information about eligibility and application in one location, the portal fills in the knowledge gap for students looking for specifics about various fellowship programs, informs Singh.

Earlier, candidates have to visit several platforms of different departments to access information about the release date, eligibility criteria, and other aspects of the fellowships. However, the minister informed that the new platform will help in reducing the time and energy loss of candidates looking for such fellowship offers as they can access it through a single portal.

As per the information, the portal allows applicants to create their profiles which can be utilised to autofill the multiple fellowship applications, which will reduce the time for candidates and will streamline the procedure. The portal makes it easier to create a special ID known as a “Common Fellowship Portal (CFP) ID.” This facilitates a more streamlined and effective application procedure, allowing candidates to apply through a single site for any available fellowships.

The portal has come up with certain unique features including the ‘Eligibility-Calculator’ that will allow applicants to their eligibility status for the different fellowships available on the portal. The data analytics for human resource development in science and technology will be visualized through this portal which can be used for improving the portal and analysing the research aspects in the country.

The portal can be accessed through the official website – https://fellowships.gov.in/. The portal is a collaboration effort of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). However, Minister Singh informed that plans to integrate fellowships from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), University Grant Commission (UGC), and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) are also underway.
