
'Eligible Candidates Won't Be Jobless': Mamata Banerjee Ensures Dismissed Teachers
Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal’s Chief Minister has publically supported the dismissed teachers after the Supreme Court uphold a Calcutta High Court decision to cancel the recruitment of over 25,000 teaching and non-teaching staff. The West Bengal CM has criticised the court’s ruling and ensured teachers about the job security.
West Bengal School Service Recruitment Scam is an ongoing investigation sicne 2022 involving CBI and ED focusing on fraudulant teacher recruitment processes. These appointment were made by a recruitment panel set up by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) in 2016.

The court said that the entire selection process was ‘vitiated and tainted beyond resolution’. In its April 3, verdict court sided the large scale recruitment process dismissing over 24,000 teachers.
The SSC scam has been one of the State’s biggest scam in the recent times which saw an arrest of big leaders and officers of the state including Minister Parrtha Chatterjee and MLA Manik Bhattacharya. Officials including Shanti Prasad Sinha, former Adviser to WBSSC; Ashok Kumar Saha, former Secretary of the WBSSC, Kalyanmoy Ganguly, former President of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education were among the bureaucrats arrested.
Mamata Banerjee has been targeted by the BJP protesting on the streets, with ‘Mamata Chor’ posters. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari accused Mamata supporting only a select few and not meeting with the affected candidates.

While Mamata government has said that it will abide by the ruling. The West Bengal CM met with the affected candidates and said that the ‘eligible candidates will not remain jobless’. “No one can snatch your job until i am alive”, Mamata ensured candidates.
Mamata also questioned the verdict and said that the court did not issue the list of legal and illegal appointments.
