
How Are NCERT Textbooks Different Under The New Education Policy 2020?
The National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) has launched new class 5 and 8 textbooks based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
The new edition of textbooks aims to spark imagination, creativity, and conceptual clarity in young minds.
NCERT shared information about the release of new books for class 8 on social media. For class 8, “Curiosity”, a Science Textbook and “Kaushal Bodh”, a Vocational Education Textbook have been launched.

Other textbooks for classes 5 and 8 have been launched. Here is a list of new textbooks launched by NCERT:
Malhar: Hindi Textbook (class 8)
Veena: Hindi Textbook (class 5)
Santoor: English Textbook (class 5)
Kriti: Art Textbook (Grade 8)
Poorvi: English Textbook (Grade 8)
New textbooks based on NEP 2020 for classes 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7 have already been released.
While the class 5 and 8 texbooks are not available online or offline. NCERT has listed these books on Amazon.com for sale and is expected to publish them soon.
In 2020 centre appointed former ISRO Chairman K Kasturirangan as the head of at 12-member steering committe responsible for developing a new National Curriculum Framework.
NEP 2020 says that curriculum and pedagogy in schools must be that learning should be holistic, integrated, enjoyable and engaging. Education Policy lays particular emphasis on the development of the creative potential of each individual. It is based on the principle that education must develop not only cognitive capacities – both the ‘foundational capacities ’of literacy and numeracy and ‘higher-order’ cognitive capacities, such as critical thinking and problem solving – but also social, ethical, and emotional capacities and dispositions.
