IIT Delhi Holds TLS Workshop For PhD Scholars

A three-day “Transformative Leadership in STEMM (TLS) Workshop” for Ph.D. scholars from the SC and ST community was organized at IIT Delhi. A total of 30 candidates from IITs, NITs, and other Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) were selected by Prof. Narayanan Kurur”s committee for the event.

This was organized aiming to encourage Ph.D. scholars to apply for faculty positions at IITs, NITs, and other HEIs. During the workshop, Ph.D. scholars presented their research work and were given feedback and mentorship by the faculty members. They were also engaged in an incubation-based group activity led by the Technology Innovation Hub of IIT Delhi and participated in various skill-building sessions, informed IIT press release.

Various professors expressed remarks and highlighted the importance of the workshop in shaping a welcoming environment and fostering inclusivity to support students from marginalized communities.

Professors also guided participants about avoiding common mistakes in handling the uncertainties and stress of jobs, aspects of proposal writing, commercialization of new technologies, Communication in the English Language, and Self-presentation anxieties.

The workshop was organized by the Initiative for Caste Equity, Office of Diversity & Inclusion in collaboration with the SC/ST Cell, IIT Delhi.

The organizers of the workshop, Prof. Yashpal Jogdand, and Prof. Pravin Ingole, expressed their appreciation for the Institute”s overwhelming support of this initiative. They particularly acknowledged the faculty members from the Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering departments who participated in the scientific committee, provided feedback, mentored the students, and made time to engage in casual conversations with the students during the workshop.

According to some recent reports, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) has not recruited any faculty members belongs to Schedule Tribe (ST) category, from January 2021 to June 2023, despite the provision of special drive to recruit persons from the reserved categories. According to the data revealed under an RTI application filed by a social activist, IIMB disclosed the 585 members from Unreserved Category (UR), 125 people from Schedule Caste (SC) category and 39 candidates from Schedule Tribe (ST) applied for employment during this period.
