International Students Literature Fest 2024: Voices Of Anti-Fascism From The Campus

SAFI Institute of Advanced Study hosted the International Students Literature Fest 2024 on February 21st and 22nd at Vazhayur, Malappuram, Kerala. The literature fest organized by the Department of English turned out as a platform for the students to raise their voices against injustices happening in the country.

The first day was loud with panel discussions on Campus Activism and Higher Education. Kerala Students Union (KSU) state Vice President Ann Sebastian, Muslim Students Federation (MSF) Haritha President Shaheeda Rasheed, Fraternity Movement State Committee Member Fasna Mian were the panelists of the Session “Is Politics a Student Affair?” where writer and 4th sem Economics student Sulaim was the Moderator. The session witnessed novel ideas as well as interactions from a spirited audience.

The second session titled How to fly High gave the students detailed information regarding overseas Education. Team Leader of EDROOTS International Neenu Unnikrishnan, Director Shameer Moothedath and Director of Anfield Study Abroad Mohammed Naseef participated as panellists in the Houseful Seminar Hall.

Principal Professor E P Imbichikoya said that the programme aims at fostering creativity, critical thinking, and dialogue among the student community. Dr Najda, Head of the Department of English stated that this is the first time a college in Kerala has convened the Student Literature Fest discussing culture, subaltern, marginal and differently-abled.

Motivation speaker and student Amal Iqbal, writer and activist Shabna Ponnad, and research scholar of Calicut University Yunus Chemban presented their concerns on a differently-abled friendly campus.

Addressing the subtle nature of Caste as Consciousness, KSU Convenor Priya C P, Fraternity Movement State General Secretary Archana Prajith, and Former Joint Secretary of AISF Nimisha Raju detailed inhuman atrocities in the names of caste from their lived experience. Writer and Journalism student Nikita Ramanarayan was the moderator of the session, which enlightened the students. The panellists opined that the questions from the audience proved that they would become the hope of future India.

BA English student Sana was the Moderator for the last session on dynamics and social media where National Federation Cup Gold Medalist Arya Suresh,  Kalarippayatt Trainer Arifa Kodiyil, National Games winners Archana and Nandana talked about their experiences in the field of Martial Arts and performed their talents.

The panellists and students highlighted that discussing Campus politics and caste consciousness is a great sign of change. However, the Department of English and SAFI Management are all set to conduct Students Literature Fest with radical discussions every year
