JMI Shines In QS World University Ranking 2026; IIT Delhi Leads India

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has achieved a significant milestone by securing a position in the 761–770 band in the QS World University Rankings 2026, released by the Londonbased QS Rankings Agency. This is a substantial leap above its previous position in the 851–900 band in the 2025 edition.

Vice Chancellor JMI, Prof. Mazhar Asif, and Registrar JMI, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, congratulated the entire JMI fraternity, especially the faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students, for this extraordinary achievement. Prof. Asif noted, “This international distinction is extremely satisfying and demonstrates the university’s outstanding teaching standards and excellence in research.

The Vice Chancellor and Registrar, JMI, specially congratulated the IQAC team for its instrumental role in coordinating ranking-related data and quality enhancement initiatives, which significantly contributed to this success. The university will strive to further improve its ranking and enhance its global reputation in the years ahead.

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has secured the top rank among Indian institutions in the QS World University Rankings 2026, with an overall 123rd rank globally. This year, an upward trend for Indian higher education institutes was observed, with nearly half of the institutes improving their ranks. Five Indian Universities are placed among the top 100 globally for Employer Reputation.

Globally, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continues to bag the top position for the 14th consecutive year. Imperial College London and Stanford University secured ranks 2 and 3, respectively. The United States remains the most represented country with 192 institutions. In Asia’s top list, Fudan University is ranked 30th, followed by Tsinghua University and Peking University.

Also IIT Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia jointly secure rank 8 in the US News 2025 Global Rankings.
