
Maharashtra Makes Hindi Mandatory For Classes 1 to 5
The Maharashtra education department introduces Hindi as a compulsory third language for classes I to V students who also study Marathi and English. However, the three compulsory language policies for classes 6 to 10 remain unchanged, and the education department to implement the State Curriculum Framework (SCF) 2024.
As per the official notification, Marathi and English medium schools currently have two languages from classes 1 to 5. In schools under other mediums, Marathi and English are mandatory along with the medium language, following the three-language formula. According to SCF 2024, Hindi will be a mandatory subject as a third language in Marathi and English medium schools for classes I to V.
In other medium schools, three languages – medium language, Marathi and English will be taught from standard 1 to 5.

Also, the schools will adopt the 5+3+3+4 pattern. from the 2025-26 academic year, for the foundational early childhood and education, school education, adult education and teacher education. Earier the state followed 10+2+3 formula.
Primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels will be known as foundational, middle, and secondary levels. The new pattern will include foundational level for kindergarten I to standard II, the preparatory level for standards III to V, the middle level for standards VI to VIII, and the secondary level for standards IX to XII.
The new curriculum for government schools with Marathi, English, and Hindi will begin with class 1 in the 2025-26 session with an integrated NCERT and state board syllabus.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will prepare the timetable and evaluation methods for schools in Maharashtra.
