Malayali Professor Inducted Into Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Court

Uttar Pradesh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has announced the induction of five Hall Provosts, including a Malayali academic, into its University Court for a term of three years or until they continue in their respective roles, whichever is earlier.

Among those appointed is Prof Naushad Ali P.M., a Malayali professor currently serving as Provost of Vigarul Mulk Hall.

His inclusion has drawn attention in academic circles, highlighting the growing representation of scholars from Kerala in key institutional bodies at AMU.

Dr P.M. Naushad Ali is a senior academic and the third Malayali to be inducted into the University Court of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.

He serves as a Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at the university and is known for his contributions to research, teaching, and academic administration.

The other newly inducted members include Dr Fasih Raghib Gauhar (Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall), Dr Iftekhar Ahmad Ansari (Sir Ziauddin Hall), Prof Mohammad Tariq (Dr B.R. Ambedkar Hall), and Dr Sheeba Jilani (Abdullah Hall).

The appointments have come into effect immediately and are based on seniority and rotational representation among Hall Provosts.

The University Court is one of the highest governing bodies of AMU, playing a crucial role in reviewing policies, administration, and long-term planning of the institution.

The inclusion of experienced provosts is expected to strengthen governance and bring diverse academic perspectives to the Court.

Founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, AMU has a rich legacy rooted in modern education and social reform. Established in 1875 as the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, it later evolved into a central university and became a symbol of progressive learning in India.

Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a visionary reformer, emphasized the importance of modern education, especially in science and English, to uplift marginalized communities. His efforts, including the establishment of the Scientific Society and educational institutions, laid the foundation for what would become one of India’s premier universities.
