The National Council of Education Research (NCERT) notified CBSE about the revision of class 3 and 6 syllabuses following the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE). Notably, the NCERT, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and Navodaya Vidyalaya Sangathan are collaborating to implement the NEP 2020.
The new curriculum will be effective from the upcoming academic year 2024-25. In the notice sent to CBSE, KVS, and NVS, the required actions including changes in school timetables, and information to school heads, teachers, and parents are highlighted. It advised regulatory authorities to formulate a strategy to engage students of Grades 3 and 6 in playful and activity-based learning at the start of the new academic year to ensure a holistic environment for creativity as well as physical education of children.
The NCERT will provide support with a syllabus bridge program for Grade 6 and guidelines for Grade 3 to implement the new curriculum effectively. The notice said that the new books and textbooks are being developed to align with the NCF-SE 2023.
On October 20, 2022, the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS) was released. This is India”s first-ever integrated curriculum framework for kids aged three to eight. It is a direct result of the “curricular and pedagogical” structure (5+3+3+4) for school education that NEP 2020 recommends and incorporates early childhood care and education for all children aged 3 to 8. NCERT established the NCF for Foundational Stage (NCFFS) after a protracted consultation process involving numerous institutions and organizations, as well as States and UTs down to the local level.
To focus attention on a comprehensive approach to providing a sound foundation for survival, growth, protection, development, and early learning under the proposed Early Childhood Care and Education, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has prepared the draft National Policy on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), the draft National Curriculum Framework for Early Childhood Education (ECE), and the draft Quality Standards in ECCE.
